Order Only: Scott, Rory and Pleniloquence
Scott Brownmiller will indeed leave us to join the Sherwood band. He hesitated for a number of days, both because he hoped his presence might persuade Pleniloquence to open up a bit--we've finally decided it hasn't--and because he was unsure what to do about Rory. I had Jackie Davidson (formerly Jackie Porter) come in to talk to him, since the boy she had with Will is a little over a year old now. Pleniloquence assumed, of course, that Jackie had come to talk to her and I detected a whiff of surprise when Jackie grandly snubbed her and talked only to Scott. I think what Jackie had to tell him about how they were set up reassured him about taking the boy into their camp. Moddey Dhoo was raised as a possibility for Rory, but Scott hates the idea of being separated from his son right now, and I must say, I can't blame him. The boy's just lost his mother, and losing his father on top of that would be more of a blow than any three year old needs.
But there IS the winter to consider. Frank and Alice, we did have another idea: would you be open to the idea of the two of them coming to spend a couple of days there, just for a visit to start? Then, once they've been introduced to the place, if Scott could maybe leave the boy there a day a week. They could work it up to two days a week, then three, then so on. By the time the winter comes, Rory could be there most of the time (if you have room for him), and perhaps his father could come to spend a couple days a week there. Scott's visits would be a way to ferry supplies, messages and so on between the Band and Moddey Dhoo, and it would give Rory a chance to slowly make the transition to staying there with you most of the time, while still maintaining ties with his father. I think that might give Scott the most peace of mind. What do you think?
Other than that, we Players have been rotating shifts to watch Ridley, who is proving as stubborn as ever. Benjy and Caradoc got bored one afternoon and started running lines for the next show that Dorcas is writing, and Ridley was so nonplussed by their behaviour that we've taken rather a sneaky delight in blatantly ignoring her while we run rehearsals. Including some of our most slapstick, outrageous shows. At first, her reaction seemed limited to be a sort of faint contempt. But when she finally asked us acidly what on earth we thought we were doing, Benjy took great pleasure in informing her that the Peacehaven Players were quite the rage in the camps. All over the Protectorate. I don't think it compromises our security too much to admit to that little operation, and I saw a look in her eye for just a moment. Sort of a realisation of all the possible implications.
Something for her to think about, the crotchety old...sorry. I won't say it.
But I'm thinking it.

Private message to Frank Longbottom
I also meant to say that I was very sorry about your disappointment on Sunday, the way the vote turned out with regard to Neville, I mean. I'm sure that must have been very hard on you and Alice.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
he'll be of age in a few years.

Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
it's everyone else.
they can't leave well enough alone, and I've got to sit by and watch it happen. and then, I get to sit my kids down and explain how they can't leave, not yet, even though they're going through merlin knows what, because whatever it is, it's better than being fugitives for the rest of their lives.
you know, it's not a walk in the fucking park, arthur.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
that she's got to see that bastard mclaggen every day, sitting in the common room, walking the halls, and worry about what he's going to do
and that it's better than the alternative.
is it?
because I sure as hell don't think so.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
Merlin, Frank, what's happened?
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
hope to merlin it isn't worse than that, but I'll find out.
last summer, she said she was worried about mcclaggen, because of the way he went after her friend, and now he's gone after her.
snape passed it along to us. neville hasn't told us yet. don't blame him, it's not like we can do anything worth a damn.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
So if Snape passed it along to you, that means that he must have learned it from Neville somehow?
I hardly know what to say, Frank. If Ginny ever...my goodness. I'm so sorry; I think I must have some inkling of how you must feel.
I can set Fred and George to keep an eye out for her for you. Frankly, I think it might be wise to give Ron a heads up, too. I promise I can be discreet about it, but simply warn him that I've heard word from other parents that McLaggen is not to trusted.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
Does the girl have anyone to talk with? If Neville comes over to the Burrow for another Quidditch day, I could ask Molly to make it clear that Evelyn's invited, too. But I'm not at all sure she would confide in Molly.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
I told the twins to keep an eye out for mclaggen right before the end of term, but nothing specific. they might need to do more.
she has a friend, katrina bundy. she has her family. that's about it.
neville's a strong kid. he's got a solid group of friends, and he knows how to handle himself in a fight.
but evie,
merlin, arthur, she's my baby girl. she just got done with her second year. and now she's got this to deal with. getting punched or hexed, that's something I know how to help with.
this is different.
Re: Private message to Frank Longbottom
He will be watched carefully, I promise you. And the twins can be very creative with hexes when needed. If there is anything further that Molly or I can do, please let us know.
